Individual & Couples Counselling in Grand Cayman

Sarah Dewson provides individual and couples counselling at Cayman Medical in Grand Cayman. With more than two decades of counselling experience, she offers a gentle, confidential and person-centred approach to relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, major life changes and emotional well-being.

For Sarah Dewson, the Cayman Islands have long been home. Her family moved to Cayman in the mid-1980s, and after completing her secondary education on island, she went on to study Sociology in Canada.

Sarah's interest in counselling began early in her career while working with young people in Cayman. Since then, her professional journey has taken her from the Cayman Islands to New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom, giving her the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and at very different stages of life.

Over the years, Sarah has supported individuals through anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, major life changes and periods when life simply feels overwhelming. She has worked in community counselling, addiction services, primary care, homelessness services and education before eventually returning home to Cayman.

What Sarah values most is creating an environment where people feel comfortable speaking openly without feeling judged or rushed. Her approach is gentle, person-centred and practical. She believes counselling can help people better understand what they are experiencing, recognise patterns that may be holding them back and find realistic ways to move forward.

Couples Counselling

Sarah has recently expanded her professional training to include couples counselling, completing a Diploma in Couples Counselling. She now offers couples counselling at Cayman Medical alongside her individual counselling practice.

Sarah works with couples experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, loss of trust, affairs, intimacy concerns, separation or divorce, addiction-related relationship challenges and other pressures that can affect a relationship.

Her approach to couples counselling is intentionally supportive and collaborative. Rather than deciding who is "right" or "wrong", Sarah helps both partners feel heard, better understand the patterns developing between them and explore healthier ways of communicating and relating to one another.

Couples counselling is tailored to the circumstances and needs of each couple and progresses at a pace appropriate for both partners.

Education & Professional Background

Sarah holds an MSc in Alcohol and Drug Policy from Trinity College Dublin and professional qualifications in counselling and psychotherapy. She has also undertaken additional training in addiction counselling, counselling children and young people, and couples counselling.

She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is registered with the Council for Professions Allied with Medicine (CPAM) in the Cayman Islands.

A Longstanding Connection to the Cayman Community

Alongside her work at Cayman Medical, Sarah also works as a school counsellor, continuing a career that has been deeply connected to supporting individuals, families and the wider Cayman community.

Whether you are going through a difficult period personally, struggling within a relationship, adjusting to change or simply feel that something in your life is not quite where you would like it to be, Sarah offers a confidential and compassionate place to talk, reflect and work towards meaningful change.

Sarah would be very pleased to assist you with improving your mental health and support your return to a more vital life.
