EM Chair Pelvic Rehabilitation Program

Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor - Non-Invasively

Cayman Medical's EM Chair Pelvic Rehabilitation Program provides a non-invasive approach to activating and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles using electromagnetic stimulation.

Treatment is performed while you remain comfortably seated and fully clothed, with no surgery or invasive procedure required.

Rather than offering the EM Chair as a stand-alone treatment, our clinical team incorporates it into an individualized pelvic health and rehabilitation program based on your symptoms, medical assessment, treatment goals and response.

Speak with our team to find out whether EM Chair treatment may be appropriate for you.

What Is EM Chair Treatment?

The EM Chair uses electromagnetic stimulation to activate the muscles of the pelvic floor and produce repeated muscular contractions while you are seated on the treatment chair.

During treatment, you may feel:

  • Pelvic floor muscle contractions
  • Tingling
  • Tapping
  • Pressure
  • Other unusual but temporary sensations

The treatment intensity and overall program can be adjusted according to your comfort, symptoms and clinical response.

Could Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Be Affecting You?

Pelvic floor problems can affect both women and men and may present in different ways. Some symptoms may be related to weakness or dysfunction of the pelvic floor, while others may have a different underlying cause.

You may wish to speak with our clinical team if you experience:

  • Urine leakage when coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting or exercising
  • A sudden or difficult-to-control urge to urinate
  • Difficulty reaching the bathroom before urine leakage occurs
  • Frequent urination or regularly waking at night to urinate
  • Difficulty completely emptying your bladder
  • Accidental leakage of stool or difficulty controlling gas
  • Pelvic pressure, heaviness or a feeling of reduced pelvic support
  • Changes in bladder control following pregnancy or childbirth
  • Changes in bladder control following prostate surgery or treatment
  • Other persistent changes in urinary, bowel or pelvic function

Having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that EM Chair treatment is appropriate for you. Pelvic symptoms can have several different causes. An appropriate clinical assessment can help determine whether pelvic floor rehabilitation, further investigation or another form of treatment is recommended.

Who May Be Considered for EM Chair Pelvic Rehabilitation?

The program may be considered for patients experiencing urinary or pelvic symptoms where pelvic floor dysfunction is suspected or identified.

Because similar symptoms can arise from different conditions, suitability for EM Chair treatment should be determined following an appropriate clinical assessment.

When another cause is suspected, additional evaluation may be recommended before, during or after the EM Chair treatment program.

A Pelvic Rehabilitation Program - Not Just a Treatment Session

Pelvic symptoms can have many different causes, and pelvic floor dysfunction is only one possibility.

For this reason, Cayman Medical approaches EM Chair treatment as part of a broader clinical pelvic rehabilitation program.

Your treatment may include:

  • Review of your symptoms and medical history
  • Assessment of whether pelvic floor rehabilitation is appropriate
  • An individualized EM Chair treatment plan
  • Monitoring of your response and progress
  • Modification of treatment when clinically appropriate
  • Further medical assessment or investigation when indicated
  • Referral to an appropriate healthcare professional when necessary

Our goal is not simply to treat symptoms, but to help determine whether another or additional medical condition may require attention.

What Happens During a Treatment Session?

1. You Remain Fully Clothed

You sit comfortably on the EM Chair without the need for an invasive procedure.

2. The Treatment Is Individualized

The EM Chair is adjusted according to your treatment plan, tolerance and response.

3. Your Pelvic Floor Muscles Are Activated

Electromagnetic stimulation produces repeated contractions of the pelvic floor muscles.

4. Your Progress Is Monitored

Our clinical team can adjust, pause or discontinue treatment if this becomes clinically appropriate or if you experience significant discomfort or unusual symptoms.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

There is no single treatment course appropriate for every patient.

Your recommended number and frequency of sessions will depend on your:

  • Symptoms
  • Clinical assessment
  • Treatment goals
  • Response to treatment

Consistent attendance and completion of the recommended treatment program are important for achieving the best possible outcome.

Individual responses vary, and completion of a treatment course cannot guarantee a particular result or complete resolution of symptoms.

Is EM Chair Treatment Safe?

EM Chair treatment is generally well tolerated.

Temporary effects may include:

  • Pelvic or muscle soreness
  • Muscle fatigue
  • Tingling
  • Discomfort
  • Temporary changes in urinary or bowel symptoms

If you experience pain, significant discomfort, dizziness or another unusual symptom during treatment, you should immediately inform your nurse or clinician.

Treatment can be modified, paused or stopped when clinically necessary.

Medical Assessment Matters

Urinary and pelvic symptoms should not automatically be assumed to result from pelvic floor weakness.

Depending on your history, examination, symptoms or response to treatment, our clinical team may recommend additional evaluation such as:

  • Urine testing
  • Pelvic examination
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Bladder assessment
  • Other clinically appropriate investigations

When required, referral may also be recommended to a gynecologist, urologist, urogynecologist, physical therapist or another appropriate healthcare provider.

EM Chair treatment should never delay appropriate investigation or treatment of another suspected medical condition.

Important Safety Information

Before starting treatment, please tell our clinical team if you:

  • Are pregnant or may be pregnant
  • Have an implanted electronic, medical or metallic device
  • Have recently undergone surgery or another medical procedure
  • Have developed a new medical condition or significant new symptoms
  • Have experienced any other change in your health that could affect treatment safety

You should also inform us of relevant changes in your health before subsequent treatment sessions.

Our clinical team will determine whether it is appropriate for you to proceed with treatment.
